Atomgripz Certification System

Just closed your first 3-Band? Feel you can take on the Reaper? (keep dreaming). Either way, the Atomgripz certification system is a great way to record and celebrate strength milestones once you are able to fully close any Atomgripz gripper from the 3-band to 6-Band Reaper.

Certification Preparation

Certification is available for 3-Band, 4-Band, 5-Band, and 6-Band variants.

Accepted handle spreads for each variant are-

Narrow-40mm-60mm

Standard 60.01mm-70mm

Wide 70.01mm+

For the cert attempt a TNS* (table no set) will be accepted, as well as a set*.

*TNS (Table No Set) refers to picking the gripper up from a surface and fully closing it without any assistance from the free hand to position it first. As a TNS requires the gripper to be closed from a fully open position, it is regarded as the hardest way to close a gripper.

*Setting a gripper refers to holding the gripper in the closing hand, and using the free hand to position it, then partly closing the handles to a fixed position before the close is completed with the crushing hand.

If you are attempting your certification using a set, a setting block measuring at least 20mm must be passed through the handles before the gripper is closed.

*Due to inaccuracies in calipers and measuring equipment, a 1mm tolerance will be applied to setting blocks, so a block that measures 19mm+ will be accepted.

The Certification Attempt

The setting block, number of bands around the top of the gripper handles, and diameter of the spring must must be measured and clearly shown in the cert attempt video.

Once a gripper is set, the opposing hand cannot assist in the close of the gripper. The opposing hand cannot hold the spring, support the wrist or play any other role in closing the gripper. The hand closing the gripper should also be free of contact from the body or any supporting surface during the close attempt.

Once you are comfortable with your set, the 20mm block, must be clearly passed through the handles and removed before the handles are closed.

The gripper should be closed with spring facing upwards, towards the thumb.

Once the gripper is closed, the touching handles should clearly be shown on video and held closed for a minimum of 1 second.

Once the close is completed, the handle spread of the gripper must be measured with the measurement clearly shown on video.

Please stick to the following points to have the best chance of your certification attempt being accepted first time-

- Use good lighting in your video to help clearly show the gripper and any measurements being taken.

- Keep your gripper in the frame throughout the entire attempt. Taking the gripper out of frame may result in the certification attempt being rejected.

- Not essential, but If you can, have someone film you, rather than having to hold the camera and gripper/measuring tools.

- Once the handles are closed, bring them close to the camera to make it easy to see that they are fully touching.
